Choosing the month to schedule your high school senior portraits can feel like a guessing game. Especially when you start your senior year and you become overwhelmed with sports, senior events, and homework, you don't want to have to worry about timing!

As a professional Cincinnati senior photographer, I break down the exact calendar pros and cons so you can book the perfect date for your style.

June & July

June is a perfect month for portraits, and you can check that off your list as early as possible! Everything is freshly green, the weather is warm, and you have peak calendar flexibility before summer jobs and sports kick into high gear. July is also great to get them done early, but there is always the risk of too hot weather. July is often the start of peak summer flowers, so I always recommend braving the heat for the perfect field aesthetic.

August & September

This is prime season for senior portraits in Cincinnati. Most local high schools (like Lakota, Madeira, or Walnut Hills) have senior photo submission deadlines falling in October or November. Usually the weather is starting to cool off and you still get the benefit of gorgeous golden hours and classic summer style.

However, this window fills up incredibly fast. If you want a late-summer sunset session at a park, you will want to submit a booking inquiry by July!

October

For seniors who live in chunky knit sweaters, layers, and rich, earthy tones, October is perfect for you. There is also the plus of additional availability after peak months. You should always check with your photographer to make sure you can have photos back by your yearbook submission date, as this falls close to the deadline!

November-February

These months are a great option for studio sessions, and most photographers have much more availability in the winter months! Opting for a studio session can be a great way to take the stress off photos at the beginning of the year when everything is hectic.

Studios allow for so much flexibility in what you get out of your session. Whether you want full glam or something chill and cozy, we can make it happen! There are so many local Cincinnati studio spaces with setups and backdrops for whatever you can envision.

March-May

Spring of your graduation year is the perfect time to celebrate the finish with cap & gown photos, but there's a catch with the timing. During March and April, it is still early spring, so most flowers haven't fully bloomed yet. These two months are perfect to take group or individual photos at your high school.

And if you want the absolute best of spring, wait until May. This is the best month for outdoor cap & gown sessions if you want to take them at a park instead of your school.
