Stepping in front of a camera with your partner should be just like a fun date night. It’s a chance to unplug and celebrate your relationship. To make your session completely effortless, follow this prep guide before your upcoming session.
Coordinating Outfits
The number one thing I tell my clients: leave the identical outfits at home. Instead, I'd suggest picking a cohesive color palette with neutrals and 1 or 2 pops of color. For example, combine warm neutrals like cream, sage green, denim, and tan.
If one of you is wearing a subtle pattern (like a floral print dress), the other should stick to a solid, grounding neutral tone to avoid visual chaos. Other ways to differentiate outfits can be in the material. Silk, denim, leather, and heavy knits add great depth and texture to your photos.
Make it a True Date Night
It’s incredibly hard to go straight from a stressful workday or a long commute right into being romantic and playful on camera. My best tip: turn your 1-hour session into a full-on date night!
Plan your session like you're going out for the evening. Grab a cocktail, a coffee, or an appetizer at your favorite spot before you meet me. It gives you a chance to catch up, relax, and get into a fun, present mindset. And when you're in front of the camera, you'll be more relaxed and able to work with your photographer without the nerves.
Focus on Your Partner
You don’t need to know how to pose. A great couples session relies on dynamic and fun prompts. I will have you walking together, whispering ridiculous things in each other's ears, and moving constantly. Your only job is to react naturally to each other; I'll take care of the rest.
